Osaka Kashiwa-meshi Roman-tei | Osaka Eki Marche

I visited Roman-tei, located in Eki Marche at JR Osaka Station.

Eki Marche itself is a relatively new shopping mall, so there are quite a few stores I haven’t been to before, which makes it exciting to explore. Basically, I think most of the shops have other locations elsewhere and are operating here as Eki Marche branches, but there are also some that don’t have nearby stores, which makes it nice.

When you enter the restaurant, you’re first served Chiran tea blended with matcha. It has a stylish touch, and right from that moment you can’t help but think, “Oh, nice.”

Judging by the color alone, it looks like it might be bitter, but when you actually drink it, there’s no bitterness at all—it’s refreshing and very easy to drink.

When I looked at the menu, there were various chicken dishes, but this time I ordered the Osaka Chicken Grill Set (¥1,450). The set included the following:

• Grilled chicken rice bowl
• Clear soup
• Ohitashi (blanched vegetables)
• Dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet)
• Candied sweet potatoes (daigaku-imo)

The grilled chicken rice bowl is made by soaking the rice in a sweet-simmered sauce with carrots, onions, and konjac, then topping it with minced chicken, and finally adding thinly grilled chicken on top.

The chicken was slightly dry and light in flavor, so I think it was thinly sliced chicken breast. It was layered on top of the minced chicken rice. The chicken itself is a bit dry, but when you add the egg yolk that comes with the set, it balances perfectly.

Also, white sesame seeds and Japanese pepper are provided at the table, so sprinkling a little on top and then adding the fresh wasabi that comes with the dish makes it even more delicious.

The rolled omelet was softly cooked and full of savory dashi flavor, and the ohitashi was also very good when drizzled with soy sauce and sprinkled with a little white sesame seeds.

After finishing the rice bowl, I reset my palate with the clear soup and then enjoyed the dessert, candied sweet potatoes.

Overall, it was a well-balanced meal, and I would like to visit again when I’m in the mood for chicken dishes.
