I’ve been wanting to discover more places where I can enjoy good curry, and while walking around looking for a curry spot, a photo of curry caught my eye, so I decided to go in. That’s how I ended up at West this time.
It’s a retro, café-style restaurant located in the basement of the Osaka Ekimae 3rd Building, and they also serve set meals at lunchtime. Would “café restaurant” be a better way to describe it? It’s a place with a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel.
There are about five counter seats and around four table seats. Since it’s located inside the 3rd Building, the restaurant is on the smaller side. Since I was there for the curry, I looked over the curry menu and ordered the Ebi Fry Curry (¥1,000). I believe they also had options like katsu curry, croquette curry, and fried chicken curry. After waiting about five to six minutes, the ebi fry curry arrived.

In short, it’s a very nostalgic-tasting curry—exactly the kind of curry you’d expect to eat at a traditional coffee shop. It has large pieces of onion and carrot, and it’s a simple, old-fashioned style rather than a modern one. When you eat it, you can sense a subtle tanginess deep in the flavor—that’s the kind of taste it has.
It’s a simple curry, for better or worse, so if you’re looking to enjoy a nostalgic flavor, I recommend going to try it at West.
