Beef Tongue　Yoshiji｜Kita-Shinchi

Since I was having lunch in Osaka again today, I decided to try a beef tongue restaurant called Yoshiji in Kita-Shinchi.

I didn’t know about this restaurant beforehand. I happened to pass by while walking around looking for a place to have lunch, thought it looked good, and decided to go in.

Since the sign in front of the restaurant said “set meal,” I thought I would try that and went inside. But when I looked at the menu, I noticed they also offered lunch specials, so this time I decided to order a lunch set.

There are two lunch options: A Lunch for 1,500 yen and B Lunch for 1,700 yen. I ordered the B Lunch.

The contents of the B Lunch were as follows:

• Two slices of beef tongue (cut in half, making four pieces)
• Beef tongue sausage
• Oxtail soup
• Barley rice
• Pickles

I believe the A Lunch was the same as the B Lunch, except that the oxtail soup was replaced with beef stew, and it didn’t include the beef tongue sausage.

The beef tongue was simply seasoned with salt and pepper, offering a classic, reliable flavor. The clear oxtail soup contained two or three large pieces of meat, and it was also delicious.

Also, it was my first time trying beef tongue sausage. Compared to regular pork sausages, it had a lighter flavor, and what stood out most was its pleasant texture—the firm, slightly chewy bite was really enjoyable.

If you go for the beef tongue set meal instead of the lunch set, you can enjoy a much larger portion of beef tongue—so if you’re in the mood for beef tongue, I definitely recommend giving it a try.
